Aside from providing a good night's sleep, a well-designed bedroom can be one of the most relaxing spots in your home. If you're looking to give your bedroom a refresh in 2024, turn your space into a blissful safe haven by incorporating the decor trends experts say will be big in the coming year.

Designers say floor-to-ceiling color-drenched spaces, buttery soft velvets, and eco-conscious materials will all be popular choices in 2024. These bedroom decorating ideas go beyond trendy appeal: Each will elevate your personal style and add a functional relaxation element to your space.

To help you choose the right design upgrades for your space, design experts share the top bedroom decorating trends to keep on your radar in 2024.

1. Solid Color Textiles

According to Vanessa DeLeon, interior designer and founder of Vanessa DeLeon Associates, solid colors like burgundy, white, royal blue, black, and primary colors will energize bedrooms of all sizes and shapes this year. To create a lively rhythm in your space, dot it with a trending theme of colorful pillows and throws in a myriad of textures, suggests DeLeon, who relies on plush velvet and fabrics to elevate a bedroom's cocooning effect. To balance the full look, bring in a white comforter with bright or warm undertones. Dislike white? Swap in linens that are lighter than the boldest color in your bedroom to soften the whole palette.

2. Mixed Design Styles

Gone are the days when every wall had to match in color and style. Now, trends show us how to build a collected aesthetic, which is especially useful for partners with different design styles. To start, vary each wall to highlight a fresh design element, like using one wall to display art while wallpapering its adjacent area floor-to-ceiling. “This type of contrast on the walls is definitely trending,” DeLeon says. "When selecting a color or pattern for your room, go bold, but just make sure whatever you choose reflects your personality and style."

If you're craving even more visual depth and interest, rely on a playful approach by mixing different design themes, like bohemian with minimalism, she suggests. But before you dive deep into this trend, DeLeon encourages a tactful approach that yields interior harmony (no hodge-podge effects here). For example, if you're choosing a floral motif or wallpaper, build your color scheme from that print, rather than selecting a completely arbitrary hue.

3. Natural Lighting

Turning your attention towards bespoke lighting will instantly flip your bedroom into a zen retreat. In 2024, you can expect to see a shift toward natural lighting that boasts "the natural edges of the material, like a shell or stone, or feature artful arrangements of layers and textures," says Grace Denniston, the industrial designer for Kalco Lighting.

Denniston says this greener approach will spotlight durable and very on-trend materials like alabaster, jute, leather, shells, and wood. With light fixtures made from neutral tones that display earth's innate hues, you can harmonize modern or traditional settings and colorful surroundings. “The creamy white undertones of alabaster and Capiz shells or the earthy tan and brown of abaca and rattan add softness and balance in a room with green or tinted pastels but also work well in neutral settings,” Denniston says.

4. Barbiecore

The Barbiecore trend is steadfastly making its way into bedrooms, a movement that won't tire in 2024. Characterized by pink color schemes paired with all things bright, plush, and shiny, this trend continues to prevail thanks to its "feelings of empowerment, happiness, and luxury," DeLeon says. And while “pink can really make a statement,” the designer says, choosing its color companions carefully is what will ultimately create an idyllic bedroom scene. To drastically enhance pink's beauty, experiment with hues like greys, blacks, and lighter tones of green.

5. Textured Accent Walls

If you can't commit to a bold color but still want to explore an imaginative way to outfit your space, make one wall your focal point. Whether you opt for paint, wallpaper, or molding, interior designer and HGTV design expert Taniya Nayak recommends diving into patterns and motifs that speak to you. Outfit a bedroom accent wall in stripes, floral, or plaids—nothing's off limits here.

Don't forget your millwork, too. If you paint correctly, it can help create a subtle design statement. For example, try painting your wainscoting. "Whether you opt for a bold hue or a subtle tone, a painted wainscot can add a dose of color to an area without overwhelming it," Nayak says. When selecting paint, the designer also suggests using a jumping-off point in the room (like a piece of art or bedding) as inspiration to create cohesion.

6. Color-Dipped Trims & Molding

Accent walls aren't the only place to add color to your space. “We used to see walls being painted a bold color and the trim and molding being painted white, but like the flip of a switch, we’re seeing the opposite," Nayak says. She explains this trending design technique is all about adding a pop of fun, cheery color to window trim molding, doors and door casings, baseboards, and crown molding.

Vibrant hues like "Benjamin Moore’s Spoonful of Sugar or Brilliant Blue," will flood this year's decorating scene, Nayak says. Want to use a more subtle approach? Choose a more muted hue, like forest or sage green.
