You should also note how much space you have between the floor and the door to open it without obstruction. "Doormats can also be used to add innovative design contrast," she says. "For instance, if most of your furniture is rectangular, try a circular or oblong door mat.” Material Doormats can come in a variety of materials, even though they all share the same goal of trapping dirt and keeping your shoes clean. Choosing the best material for your doormat may depend on a few factors, including your area’s climate and how often you go outside. “If you opt for a style without paying attention to substance, you may end up with a cheaply made mat that will not last or work well,” says Van Noppen. Coir: Also known as coconut fiber, this material is natural and eco-friendly.
