Now that a morning commute only consists of a walk from the bed to the desk for many, IKEA is making sure your space works for you while you work with MITTZON, its new 85-piece line of versatile office furnishings.

Designed with the 21st-century work environment in mind, the collection is designed to be more sustainable—long-lasting products that can be refurbished, disassembled and reassembled, and used for occasions like a personal, focused area to large meetings. The MITTZON system is built with high-quality materials, like fade-resistant wood veneer on desks, conference table tops, and high-strength steel.

“With MITTZON, our goal was to develop an office system that can establish the foundation for a truly flexible, comfortable and healthy environment, where everyone can find a suitable place to work, feel motivated and inspired,” said Philip Dilé, Product Design Developer at IKEA of Sweden AB.

The MITTZON collection brings a feeling of comfort to the workplace while maintaining a professional atmosphere, allowing those returning to the office from WFM situations to transition more easily. To make sure this collection is as ergonomic and user-friendly as possible, IKEA prioritized two functions:

  • Acoustics: Noise in the workplace can significantly impact focus and wellbeing. Developed to absorb and block sound, the MITTZON acoustic screens, filled with 90% wood fibers, also allow for privacy by limiting distractions.
  • Biophilic design: Biophilic design features (nature-inspired shapes, colors, and materials) have been shown to promote reduced stress and improve productivity. The Scandinavian outdoors, like sand patterns and wood finishes, inspired the design of the collection to create a relaxing, work-friendly environment.

“Ergonomic principles cover much more than good posture, and we put much thought into developing pieces that take that into account,” Dilé said. “We worked with experts in the field to consider not only the physical body but also what affects the senses, and therefore focus and well-being, in an office environment, and we’ve incorporated those findings into the development of MITTZON.”

Its neutral colors allow MITTZON to blend seamlessly into any design style or office personality. Though IKEA has been serving the needs of businesses for 40 years, this collection is the largest one for office use they’ve ever introduced. The pieces will be available to shop at IKEA US starting in July, and more products will be added to the line in 2025.
