How to Make New Year's Poppers

We'll show you how to create your own confetti poppers using upcycled toilet paper tubes. Customize your poppers with sequins, metallic confetti, or glitter for a little extra sparkle.

What You Need

  • Extra-fine crepe paper or tissue paper
  • Sequins (optional)
  • Toilet paper tubes
  • Cracker snaps
  • Ribbon
  • Adhesive dots
  • Scissors

Step 1: Prep Materials

If desired, make your own confetti by cutting some of your crepe paper into tiny squares. Add some sequins to really make your popper sparkle. Or, if you're using purchased confetti, look for an eco-friendly version made from leaves, flower petals, herbs, or some other biodegradable material. Set the confetti aside. Cut the toilet paper tube in half.

Step 2: Measure Crepe Paper

Measure a 10x6-inch piece of crepe paper with the lines running horizontally and lay a cracker snap down the middle.

Step 3: Adhere Paper to Cut Tubes

Place two adhesive dots on the bottom of the crepe paper and place both toilet paper tube halves on the dots. Roll the paper around them and adhere with two more adhesive dots on the other end. Trim any excess paper.

Step 4: Add Ribbon

Cut two, 8-inch long pieces of ribbon. Tie one around an end and stuff confetti into the other end until it is full. Tie off the open end with the second ribbon.

Step 5: Trim Ends

Gently fan out the ends of the crepe paper. Trim the ends of the exposed cracker snap and the ribbons. To pop the party confetti poppers, grab each end and gently pull.
