From Girl Dinner to Caviar: Here Are Yelp's 2024 Food and Drink Trend Predictions

Take a glance back at the trends foodies loved in 2023, and get a preview of what's sticking around through 2024.

The new year is almost here—and while you may not be quite sure how that happened, Yelp is ready. The user reviewing site released its Trend Forecast Report, taking all the hottest food and drink trends of last year and predicting which have lasting power—from viral restaurants to the internet’s favorite cocktail recipes.

If you're a foodie who wants to know what to expect this coming year (or just enjoy a good dining-out experience) here are the highlights for Yelp’s food and drink predictions of 2024.

Caviar Sampling

If you thought caviar was a delicacy of the past, this year's trend report is here to prove you wrong. Searches for caviar spiked 31% in 2023, and interest in the luxury food item is only expected to grow as people seek it out in restaurants and grocery stores. Not a fan of the potato chip caviar trend? You'll soon have more options. Even casual bars are adding caviar bumps to their bar bites menus—not a bad way to start the new year.

Star-Studded Restaurants

This year, it's been tough securing a seat at restaurants visited by A-listers. Restaurants where viral celeb sightings occurred saw more searches and bookings than ever before. If you’re trying to get a seat at your favorite high-end eatery, you'll likely have to go with an earlier dining time just to snag a table. Yelp mentions Nobu and Carbone as two classic favorites that are difficult to get into.

Girl Dinner Goes Big

The girls might be done with their little homemade dinners in 2024. Searches are spiking for small bites and tapas at restaurants around the country, with the ‘girl dinner’ trend causing a major uptick in the number of restaurants offering a variety of appetizers as the main meal. Next year, you can look forward to your favorite girl dinner not being a smorgasbord of at-home snacks.

Martini Madness

Maybe you got a little grossed out by the pickle martini trend—but maybe you were struck with inspiration. According to Yelp, the most popular martini mixes of 2023 aren’t going out of style just yet, with searches for viral martini recipes still skyrocketing. The matcha martini wins the list with searches up 1,323%.

Espresso Cocktails

Who hasn’t envied the gorgeous espresso martinis that took over social media earlier this year? Its viral successor, the carajillo, is going into 2024 as the reigning queen of the beverage scene.

To make it, all you need is a 1:1 ratio of Licor 43 and straight coffee. It has a strong and sweet flavor with subtle hints of citrus and vanilla—this elegant cocktail might just put the espresso martini to shame.

Spritz Stans

Thanks to the Hugo Spritz and Aperol Spritz, social media had two new drinks to obsess over throughout the past summer. This pair graced at-home cocktail bars and fancy restaurant menus alike.

Don’t think that these drinks are just going to stick to the summer season, though; Yelp predicts that you'll be ordering them year round—although they’ll probably be back in an even bigger way when summer hits.

Viral Smoothie Bars

Smoothies never go out of style, with a new trend seemingly hitting the market at least once a year. 2023 saw organic, super smoothies artfully displayed all over everyone’s socials, with popular grocery brands and juice bars dropping collaborations that drew even more shoppers in. If the Hailey Bieber smoothie comes to mind, Yelp is with you: Erewhon, Serena Kerrigan’s shake, and Joe & The Juice bar make up three other popular smoothie-related searches.

Dipping Ramen Dishes

Tsukemen ramen (also known as dipping ramen) resurfaced as a trendy dish in the summer—even though the noodles are cold, ramen is comforting year round, and Yelp predicts it’s not going anywhere in 2024. Restaurants are adapting the dipping noodles trend to their own menus, and it’s likely you'll discover exciting ways to enjoy this classic meal.
